Hello everyone! I hope you are all safe and self isolating. I will try to write more posts to keep myself busy from stressing about the coronavirus COVID 19 and keep you entertained! Bewitched is an American romantic comedy film written, produced and directed by Nora Ephron starring Nicole Kidman as Isabel Bigelow and Will Ferrell as Jack Wyatt. The film received low IMDb ratings but it was considered as a box office success. Jack is a narcissistic and selfish actor who is cast as Derrin in the remake of the 1960s sitcom Bewitched. Isabel is a real witch who is tired of being different. She just wants to be normal and have a normal human life. Therefore she moves to Los Angeles to start a brand new life and leave her old self behind.

Jack and his production team are looking for someone who can be cast as Samantha (a witch) in their Bewitched sitcom remake. After numerous failed Samantha auditions, Jack spots Isabel at a bookstore. He succeeds in persuading Isabel to audition for Samantha. Isabel impresses producers and writers of the sitcom remake. Therefore she gets the role! One day at the set, Isabel overhears Jack’s conversation with his agent Ritchie. They are talking about how they tricked Isabel and she will not even have any lines on the show. After hearing this, Isabel loses her faith and ambition. She feels fooled. Luckily, her aunt Clara visits her and casts a spell on Jack to make him fall in love with Isabel.

The spell works just fine! Jack is all over Isabel and he puts her in every scene. His love for her keeps growing and he asks her to go on a date with him. Isabel forgets the fact that he is in fact under a spell and none of it is real. She realises the sad truth and reverses everything… At the end, she tells Jack the truth about her being a witch. He gets scared and frightened by her and this breaks Isabel’s heart. At this point she is ready to leave and go back home but just before she leaves, Jack comes along saying he is sorry, he accepts her being a witch and reminds her she does not have to be normal to be happy. Isabel’s story matches her character Samantha’s story. They are both witches who wish to be normal just like everybody else and be loved and needed by someone. Samantha’s story becomes reality with Isabel.

The film supports the idea that happy endings not only happen in fairy tales but also in real life. Just be true to yourself and others around you. If someone truly loves you, you do not need to cast spells on them or crave for his attention. He will eventually accept you for who you are and will make sure you feel special. Bewitched lacks flow especially at the first half of the film. There is not much happening and seems kind of cliché that Jack was looking for someone who can play his partner who is a witch at a TV show and Isabel happens to be a real witch and they become real life partners. However, this film puts a smile on your face while watching makes you feel charmed and happy! I will assume you have already seen the film if not, sorry for the spoilers! So if you or your friends are looking for a happy movie to pass the time and entertain yourself, this is it! Ignore the ratings, give it a shot!
