Moulin Rouge! is a romance and drama musical starring Ewan McGregor as Christian and Nicole Kidman as Satine. It is a about an English poet, Christian who falls in love with the star of Moulin Rouge! , a cabaret actress and a prostitute, Satine. Arguably, this character is the most glamorous character Nicole Kidman has ever portrayed. She is sexy, fiery and confident.

Everything starts when Christian ends up in Satine’s private room and she mistakes him as the wealthy Duke who is willing to invest in the cabaret. She tries to seduce him because she thinks he is the wealthy Duke but then she learns he is just a writer. That is when their feelings for each other starts developing. At the first, Satine is hesitant but eventually she falls in love with Christian. He emphasises new beginnings, opportunities and purity for her. He is kind and loving and for the first time she feels loved. That is something that she is not familiar with. She wants to leave everything behind with Christian and become a real actress. However it is not as easy as it sounds…
Nicole Kidman proves that she is a very versatile actress who can sing, dance and act. She proves it with her terrific performance in this iconic scene. She (Satine) performs Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend and Like a Virgin. She seems like a materialistic person who would choose money over love but she is not. She probably would have before she met Christian but he changed her in many ways. At the end of the performance, she suddenly faints. Then she coughs blood which is an indicator that she has tuberculosis at the time. The information was hidden from her for a while but she finds out, she leaves Christian to prevent him from getting heart broken when she dies.

At the end, Christian finds out and they perform together for the last time. The duke tries to shoot Christian but after several failed attempts he gives up. Nothing can stand in the way of true love. There is just one thing that Satine wants from Christian before she dies. She wants him to write a story about their love. After a year, Moulin Rouge closes down and Christian finishes up writing the tale “love that will live forever”. This is an indicator that even though they had a short time being physically together, their love is eternal and will live forever.
